3 Teens Arrested In South L.A. Shooting That Injured 1-Year-Old Girl
Three teenage boys were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shooting a 1-year-old child and her mother, according to Los Angeles police. The shooting, which police said was likely gang-related, occurred around 5:30 p.m. June 5 near 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles. The victim and another woman, both in their 20s, had parked at a hamburger stand on the corner with their young children, ages 1 year and 8 months, sitting in the back seat. A gray Kia sedan pulled up alongside the victim’s car and fired several shots inside before driving away. The shooting left the 20-year-old mother with a wounded leg and her 1-year-old daughter with a foot wound, according to police. Both injuries were nonfatal, and the other two occupants were not injured. A police investigation determined the shooting was likely gang-related and that the victims were mistakenly targeted as rival gang members. A search warrant yielded surveillance footage that led authorities to identify the suspects, a 17-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys. Their identities were withheld because they are minors.

Meet Bosco: LAPD Drug Dog That Sniffed Out Drugs, Gun, Cash From Vending Machine
KTLA 5’s Rick Chambers got the opportunity to meet Bosco, the LAPD drug dog that sniffed out heroin, fentanyl, guns and cash from a vending machine in a warehouse in Gardena on Friday. What makes Bosco’s story even more remarkable is the fact that he has only been a K-9 for six months and that he was on his third-ever deployment when he got called into action. Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were serving a search warrant at the Gardena warehouse when they requested a K-9 Unit from the Los Angeles Police Department to assist them. The two-year-old Dutch shepherd quickly alerted officers to 15 pounds of heroin, a kilogram of fentanyl, an assault rifle and thousands of dollars in cash in an operational vending machine. According to Bosco’s handler, Officer Pablo Soto, his frenetic energy is what helps officers the most when searching for drugs. “When he’s looking for the odor, he’s very all over the place,” said Officer Soto. “When he locates it, he slows down, ultimately coming to a complete stop.”

LA City Council OKs RV Parking Restrictions In District 11
The Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution this week to minimize RV and oversized vehicles in District 11. It’s been a controversial issue between residents and people living inside their vehicles. The city is designating six more locations like Ocean Park Boulevard to the no overnight parking list over safety and parking concerns. The move has both sides speaking up. “I’ve been here for about six years,” Carlos Aviles, an RV tenant, said. Aviles claims to be happy with his carefree lifestyle inside this RV. He is one of many who will now be forced to move between the overnight hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The city council approved the resolution after residents expressed safety concerns. “They dump garbage, let their dogs off leash, dump sewage. It’s an intrusion,” Mourchette Van Helsdingen, a Mar Vista resident, said. Van Helsdingen has three RV units parked across from her house. She says something needs to be done to prevent them from parking throughout the neighborhoods. “There should not be camping in the city,” Van Helsdingen said. On Tuesday the LA City Council approved new locations to an already growing list of parking bans which include Westminster Avenue, Glencoe Avenue, Ocean Park Boulevard, Westgate Avenue, Pershing Drive and Alvern Circle.
