John,
This Immigrant Heritage Month, we're celebrating and highlighting
stories of immigrants making our communities richer through culture, art
and food.
I recently met up with two incredible people who shared their
experiences as immigrant artists and chefs with me - and I thought
you'd like to meet them and learn more about their stories.
First, meet **Alfonso Perez Acosta** <[link removed]>,
an independent Colombian artist living and working in Richmond,
Virginia. He uses art as an education and healing tool and is engaged in
a variety of community-based projects. He was involved with the
"Together We Rise" mural for the **Mending Walls project**
<[link removed]>, a book of the Portraits of Immigrant
Voices drawing series. Â

Meet **Christian Irabien**
<[link removed]>,
an award-winning Mexican chef based in Washington, D.C. Recently, he
held the role of Founder/Managing Partner/Culinary and Operations
Director at Muchas Gracias in Washington, D.C., Founder at Hospitality
Humans, and Owner and Operator for Amparo Fondita. Beyond his role as
chef, he's a grassroots and community organizer for organizations like
World Central Kitchen and DC Central Kitchen. He was also a recipient of
the Forum's Keepers of the American Dream Award in 2020. Â
