Happy Pride Month, folks!

As we celebrate in parades and festivals across Wisconsin, we have to remember that LGBTQ Americans’ fundamental freedoms and civil rights are under attack by Republican governors and state lawmakers across the country.

From Florida’s horrific “Don’t Say Gay” bill to Mississippi and Iowa’s recent laws going after medical professionals providing gender-affirming care to minors, the attacks on the LGBTQ community are relentless.

Last year, we made incredible progress by passing the Respect for Marriage Act. But our work isn’t over yet. Just this year, a record number of anti-LGBTQ legislation have been introduced.

That’s why we cannot stop the fight for progress and equality. For every step forward we make, far-right lawmakers try to pull us backward.

We need to fight back against these draconian measures and ensure that LGBTQ youth across the country are given the support and equal opportunity they deserve. No LGBTQ American should face discrimination and unjust treatment simply because of who they are and who they love.

Now more than ever, we need to pass the Equality Act so we can guarantee every LGBTQ American the full freedom of equality and protection under federal law.
