Dear City Limits friends,
Earlier this year, City Limits launched a new reporting beat ([link removed]) focused exclusively on the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). My earliest years were spent in NYCHA, so it was an honor to be selected as the first NYCHA reporter for City Limits. I am keenly aware of the hardships and the hidden gems that reside within public housing. There’s at least 339,000 stories within a city of 8 million people that I am eager to have the opportunity to tell.
That's why I'm excited to announce the launch of a new NYCHA Reporting Fellowship that will allow us to further expand our coverage of this important beat, and to bridge the news and information gap in the country’s largest public housing community. With the city grappling with a housing affordability crisis and a growing homeless shelter population, our work has never been more important. As a nonprofit news organization, we rely on your support. Please make a donation today ([link removed] ) to help us launch this vital Fellowship.

We recently published a story on the growing number of vacancies in NYCHA ([link removed]) . While the housing authority aims for a 30-day turnover time for apartments, as of April, it took an average of 410 days for NYCHA to re-occupy a vacant unit—more than double the time it took a year ago.
We hit the streets to develop this story, and we'll continue reporting on NYCHA and how government leaders respond to ongoing issues there. But, as a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on your help to continue telling stories like this one.
