John, I just wanted to make sure you saw my message below. Right now, extremist politicians are passing legislation that restricts the most fundamental rights of LGBTQ Americans. I’m fighting to codify equal protections into law. Along with my colleagues, I voted to pass the Equality Act last year – but far-right Republicans are refusing to even debate it this year, let alone bring it up for a vote.

Please, if you’d like to continue our fight for equal protections under the law for ALL Americans, not just an elite few, will you contribute to my campaign? My work in Congress is dedicated to making life better for ALL Americans. Here’s a good link to give >> [link removed]

Subject: Why this Pride month is so important >

John, this Pride Month is a time to honor the hard-won victories of the LGBTQ community, which continues to fight for the right to love and live as they would like to. Today, this feels especially important, as our nation is embroiled in another ugly clash regarding gender norms, particularly as they relate to children, teachers, and the LGTBQ community.

As you probably already know, my daughter, Molly, is gay. Last fall, she married the incredible woman who is now her wife, and the two began a life together. When I was elected to Congress, I made a promise to Molly to do everything in my power to protect and defend the LGBTQ community. It’s one of the reasons I helped the House pass the historic Equality Act to guarantee all LGBTQ Americans the full protection of federal civil rights laws. And it's why I won’t stop until the Equality Act is signed into law.

Amid these renewed attacks on the LGTBQ community, I ask my fellow parents, educators, and lawmakers to simply love one another and embrace our differences, regardless of gender identity, race, ethnicity, background, or sexual orientation. In a just America, love is love. That’s what I’m fighting for right now, John – I hope you’ll join me.

My family, and so many families across our great country, are stronger for it.

Happy Pride Month! There is work to be done.

Chrissy
