The 2019 Learning Disability Mortality Review reported that men with a learning disability die 23 years earlier and women 27 years earlier than those without a learning disability. Furthermore, The Care Quality Commission has said that since June 2020, the death rate for people with a learning disability has more than doubled nationally. We think enough is enough.
Our member-led campaign group, Champions, want to stop delays in health appointments that can be a matter of life and death. We believe that prioritising people with a learning disability on NHS waiting lists will address this issue. Two NHS Health Trusts have already committed to this, and Oxfordshire County Council have committed to cutting social care waiting times for people with a learning disability, but this is just the start. We need your support to get all healthcare professionals, health trusts and integrated care systems on board. |
