‘A Place That’s Safe’: Housing for Trans People, by Trans People
Nationwide, trans people—particularly Black trans women—experience disproportionate rates of housing instability, often compounded by employment discrimination and familial and community rejection.

“None of our systems are built with trans people in mind,” said Gabi Velasco, a policy analyst in the Urban Institute’s Research to Action Lab. “When there’s so much instability and so little security, it’s just hard to trust that you’re going to a place that’s safe.”

Read about the Atlanta-based Trans Housing Coalition, a trans-led organization that’s not only placing Black and Latina transgender women in housing but also partnering with other services to help secure stable futures for trans women.
