John, in Florida, worker freedom has won again

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill last month that protects workers from predatory union practices and requires unions to communicate with workers about their right to decide whether to join a union.

Americans for Prosperity staff and activists like you have been at the center of this fight since 2015. And, while efforts at reform and giving government employees the freedom not to join a union were defeated in 2017, 2018, and 2020, persistence meant expanded freedom this year.

As a result, public sector employees in Florida are no longer subject to automatic dues deductions and unions are held to better account for prioritizing the interest of their members rather than those of union leadership.

Florida isn’t the only place where you’ve secured protections for worker freedoms. Our focus on this important issue has sparked a wave of reforms in many states that increase job creation and individual prosperity.

  • In 26 states, we’ve helped enact Right to Work — including a constitutional amendment in Tennessee.
  • In Arkansas, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia, we helped eliminate hurdles for workers to relocate from other states and begin working through a universal license recognition policy.
  • In Utah, AFP helped usher in a portable benefits policy — allowing for more opportunities for independent contractors.
  • And in Congress, we’ve built a coalition of lawmakers who are standing strong against threats to worker freedom such as the PRO Act, while building coalitions to support nationwide protections for the right to work in the proposed Employee Rights Act sponsored by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.

As you know, it’s imperative to remain vigilant about worker freedom, even after an important victory.

You’ll recall that after a protracted policy fight, Michigan repealed Right to Work. And with a loss in the state Supreme Court, Wisconsinites face a serious challenge to their rights by way of judicial activism.

And today, the union bosses are trying to win nationally, with their PRO Act in Congress that would ban right-to-work laws in all 50 states!

These setbacks and threats highlight the continued need for Americans for Prosperity and activists like you to hold lawmakers accountable.

Our conviction is that workers, not government, should determine their own participation in a union.

If you agree, please send this e-letter to your lawmaker and tell them to stop the union-backed, anti-worker PRO Act.

P.S. Worker freedom is growing. Six states have recently expanded worker opportunity.

However, Michigan just overturned their Right to Work law … AND the union bosses want to overturn Right to Work in all 50 states by passing the PRO Act in Congress.

Tell your lawmaker to vote against this harmful, anti-worker legislation!
