New Orleans DSA - Update

City Council will be voting on an important ordinance related City Workers' right to organize on Thursday (6/22). The Right to Bargain Ordinance was authored by Councilmembers Moreno and Morrell, and will make sure that the City is forced to bargain with unions in a timely manner, and that City administrators can't prevent you from speaking with a union like they have with AFSCME over the past 2 years.

New Orleans DSA unequivocally supports the right of city workers, and all workers, to self-organize, to form unions, and to fight for fair collective bargaining agreements!

You can show your support for workers' bargaining rights by doing the following tonight/tomorrow:

Online Comment: Visit this link and submit a comment on Item "Regular 12a CAL. NO. 34,124" before 8am tomorrow: https://council.nola.gov/meetings/2023/20230622-regular-meeting/ Follow the link to "Submit Public Comment."

In-Person: The ordinance be heard at 12PM. Arrive to City Council chambers on the first floor of City Hall early and fill out a public comment card to be heard. Comments must be under 2 minutes. You will be commenting on item 12a, Ordinance 34,124 by Moreno and Morrell. What we want to make sure they know is the following: We support the Right to Bargain Ordinance as long as unions are free to decide which employees are eligible for membership!

Take a look at this excellent editorial in the Times-Picayune about the ordinance, and for comment inspiration, and thank you for taking the time to comment in support.

Solidarity with City Workers!
