John,
We’re reaching out to share an update on last night’s primary election in Virginia. While one key race is still too close to call, we are happy to report some key victories:
- Saddam Salim overcame a nearly $1,000,000 fundraising disadvantage and defeated a long-time incumbent in District 37. This is a major upset victory for the climate movement, and historic in many ways. Saddam will be the first Bengal-born elected official in the State Senate and a key ally in the fight against the climate crisis.
- Lashrecse Aird soundly defeated incumbent Joe Morrissey. Joe Morrisey is not only a climate villain in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry, but is the last “pro-life” Democrat in the State Legislature. Lashrecse’s victory not only gives the people of the district a true representative, but sends a strong signal that the people expect their elected officials to earn their votes.
- Jennifer Carroll Foy defeated her opponent, who broke her pledge to reject Dominion Energy money to the tune of $200,000 in this cycle. This is a true testament to the power of supporters like you.
- Rae Cousins defeated another Dominion-backed opponent in her primary for House of Delegates District 79.
- Andres Jimenez will be the next Fairfax County Supervisor for the Mason District after his narrow victory over a so-called Democrat whose campaign was bankrolled by Republican donors.
- Rozia Henson won in a close race against two other primary opponents for House of Delegates District 19.
These primary victories are just the first step towards ensuring a sustainable clean energy future for all Virginians. Can you make a contribution today to support our candidates for the November election?

With the primary election behind us, our team is gearing up for the next battle ahead of us; we will be announcing more endorsements in Virginia for the general election soon, and your support will make a big impact on how much of an impact we can make.
