Hi there -

I'm Derwyn Bunton, the chief legal officer at the SPLC. On behalf of the SPLC's Legal department, I am writing with an urgent request for your immediate assistance in increasing our resources.

As you know, litigation is one of the most powerful tools the SPLC has in our fight against white supremacy and other far-right extremist movements, and to promote justice, equity and liberation. We've won landmark cases that brought systemic reforms in the Deep South. We've toppled remnants of Jim Crow segregation and destroyed violent white supremacist groups. We've shattered barriers to equality for women, vulnerable children, the LGBTQ community and the disabled. We've protected migrant workers and immigrants from abuse, ensured the humane treatment of prisoners, reformed juvenile justice practices, and more.

But the explosive growth of white supremacist, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and other hate driven ideologies - across the Deep South and beyond - is putting unprecedented pressure on our resources and on our litigation team's ability to win critical legal battles.

Your gift keeps our litigation team in the courtroom fighting for civil and human rights. That's why I'm personally asking you to become an SPLC donor today and join my team as we take on even more landmark legal battles.

Right now, our collective struggle for justice and equality is playing out in courtrooms across the country. For over 50 years, we've been on the ground in federal and state courtrooms supporting marginalized communities, and our work is becoming more
necessary by the day.

Your contribution will help us take down notorious hate leaders like Andrew Anglin, hitting them with multimillion-dollar judgments, and sending them skulking back into the dark corners where they belong.

We're also taking direct aim at government officeholders who are implementing racist, discriminatory, and exploitive policies against marginalized communities. Whether it's a local sheriff's department racially profiling law-abiding motorists, the Florida politicians pandering to LGBTQ-phobia with the reprehensible "Don't Say Gay" law, or the U.S. Justice Department's ongoing attack on asylum seekers' rights, we are using the full force of the law to hold them accountable.

In the Deep South especially, we are seeing some of the ugliest, most brazen state and local government assaults on voting rights, civil rights, and human rights since the worst days of Jim Crow. Still, the SPLC will never back down from racist, hate-fueled bullies, no matter
how powerful they are. Will you make a special gift today to show our
legal team that they're not alone?

Your support is tremendously empowering. Please know that our legal
team extends their gratitude to you each time they step foot in a
courtroom.

Our deepest thanks,

Derwyn Bunton
Chief Legal Officer
