How do we win?

We don't give up.

After the defeat of the last election, maybe you're wondering why you should invest in my race again. Understandable. But, one and done candidates are for the birds. This is a problem facing rural districts - no one is building off the last election cycle, and repeatedly Democrats lose ground. We cannot afford to lose any more ground in this district.

Democrats represented Michigan's First District from 1933 - 2011, but we've lost our rural footing since then. Good news. For the first time in a decade and half, we finally have a candidate committed to a two-cycle strategy that can have real power at the ballot box. I'm honored to be that candidate. The last repeat Democratic candidate we had in Michigan's First District in 2010 made huge gains against the incumbent during a rematch. Gary McDowell's first run garnered him 40% of the vote. Unphased, he received 47% two years later, one point away from unseating incumbent Dan Benshiek. One point. With you, unseating Jack Bergman is very possible. I've been a fighter my whole life — growing up poor, working my way from community college to get into medical school so I could serve low-income Medicaid recipients. I'm driven by the same perseverance and grit our citizens know well. I'm running again as a proud Democrat, unashamed of being a blue dot in a red sea, and ready to create a tidal wave of change. We will never win back this seat being afraid of who we are. We cannot kowtow to extremists! When we get knocked down, we get back up, and try again. Ballot name-recognition in the general election is huge, and I'll put in the work, but getting us there will require your collective faith, optimism and loyalty. Rural America needs universal healthcare. When I'm elected to Congress, on day one, I'll draft or sponsor its legislation. We need a publicly financed, non-profit national health insurance program that fully covers medical care costs for all Americans. And we need a doctor in the House to get it done.

I'm a fighter, but I need you in my corner today. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
