My Bill Bringing Disaster Relief to FL Farmers Passed the House

Image

Last week, the House passed my bill, H.R. 662, the Block Grant Assistance Act to help Florida’s growers impacted by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. This bill provides needed authorization for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to provide critical disaster relief to our citrus growers sooner. It was supported by the entire Florida delegation and received unanimous support on the House floor. I urge swift action in the Senate to get disaster relief distributed ASAP. Click here to learn more.

Honoring fallen Marine Corporal Ronald R. Payne Jr.

Image

Last week, the Lakeland community honored the life and legacy of fallen U.S. Marine Corporal Ronald R. Payne Jr. of Polk County, who was killed in action during a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Tawara, Afghanistan on May 7, 2004. It was an honor to pass a bill to rename the South Lakeland Post Office in his honor. Corporal Payne was a shining example of the best America has to offer. This small tribute ensures Corporal Payne's legacy and sacrifice lives on for current and future generations in our community. Click here to learn more.

Ensuring Job Security for Deployed Servicemembers

Image

While most companies work to support employees in the military reserves or National Guard, some do not follow the law for workforce protections. As a former Navy reservist AND business owner, I know companies can strike the right balance. That's why I introduced H.R. 3943, the Servicemember Employment Protection Act last week to improve reemployment protections for our servicemembersClick here to learn more.

Reasserting Congress's Constitutional Authority

Image

Over time, Congress has surrendered its constitutional responsibility to keep check on a growing executive branch. This constitutional imbalance has made government less transparent and increased costs, making it harder to achieve the American Dream. That's why my House Republican colleagues and I passed H.R. 277, the REINS Act. This bill reasserts Congress's legislative authority and prevents executive overreach by the executive branch in the federal rulemaking process. Passage of this legislation is an important step in restoring constitutional balance in our government.
