Today has been a wonderful day. I’m so excited to officially launch my Senate campaign, and hopefully, it will be just as wonderful once I’m working in the Senate.

I’d be joining an historic – albeit short – list of Black women Senators who shattered ceilings for women of color, which is an honor I hold extremely high. And today? There are ZERO Black women Senators walking the halls of Congress.But the bigger honor is getting to do the hard work that can change people’s lives.

To me, being a Congresswoman, and hopefully a Senator, is about building a government that works for every person in this country, regardless of race, gender, religion or anything else.
