I need to ask you to support my reelection campaign today, but I thought you deserved an explanation for why your donation is so important. Please hear me out.

I love this job. Every single morning I wake up with the opportunity to do work that will hopefully help people realize the dreams and the aspirations they have for themselves and for their families.

I wish I could spend all my time working to pass legislation that will increase wages, or reduce gun violence, or protect your health care.

But the truth is that I can’t spend all my time on this work. Not as long as billionaire and special interest money still exists in our politics. I have to be ready for a self-funding candidate or a special interest funded super PAC to enter my race for reelection, and that means I need to spend time raising money for my 2024 campaign.

It’s hard work — hour after hour, sitting in a windowless call room asking people for money. Sometimes people in my job can feel more like a telemarketer than a Senator.

Now, I have to admit - I am lucky. I made a bet a long time ago that by focusing more on the work of being a legislator and limiting the amount of time I spend fundraising, people would appreciate that approach and have my back when I needed it. The response to date has been humbling.

I have made a bet that I can spend almost all my time legislating because you will step up and help fund my campaign. But it does mean I have to lean on you a bit more for support — especially on days like this with an FEC deadline next week. So I need to ask:

Will you please consider making a donation of $3 or whatever you can afford to my reelection campaign? The fights we’ve won and the change we’ve made has only been possible because people like you who share our values pitched in to make it happen.

Look with the FEC deadline, I’m feeling the pressure. Now that my name is about to be on the ballot again, I really cannot afford to take anything for granted.

The emails I send and the small-dollar donations I receive are a primary driver of fundraising for my reelection. In fact, these donations make up the majority of donations to my campaign.

Your support allows me to really focus on the work you want me to do, and it helps me be a better Senator.

So please, pitch in today to help us reach our ambitious goals before next week’s official FEC deadline. I cannot do this alone.
