Coal-fired power plants emit dangerous mercury and other air toxins that are linked to developmental impairments in children, cancer and heart attacks in adults, and many other health impacts.
Here in the Midwest, we have a large concentration of old coal-burning power plants, whose pollutants affect our air and water, including the Great Lakes.
Thankfully, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently proposed stronger measures to protect our communities from the harmful effects of this pollution.
The new plan will tighten limits on toxins from coal plants, mandate continuous pollution monitoring, and strengthen mercury limits for plants that burn dirty lignite coal.
EPA needs your support as they work to finalize stronger standards for power plant pollution. Will you submit a public comment?
