Dear John,
Our mission here at VoteRiders — and our very name — was inspired by the Freedom Riders. The Freedom Riders are true American heroes who put everything on the line for equal access to the ballot box.
Today marks the 59th anniversary of the murder of three Freedom Riders. Michael Schwerner, James Chaney, and Andrew Goodman were tortured and murdered by the Ku Klux Klan with help from the local deputy sheriff near Philadelphia, Mississippi.
For pursuing human rights, freedom, and equality, they were killed.
At VoteRiders, we honor their legacy and the legacy of all Freedom Riders. That’s why we work year-round to help people overcome the powerful barriers to voting presented by voter ID laws, and help all eligible voters obtain the ID they need to participate in our democracy and make their voice heard.
We need to channel the spirit, strength, and hope of Freedom Summer in the face of the ongoing attacks on our voting rights that continue today. We have to be willing to give everything we have — every minute, every dollar, every resource — to ensure that we are on the right side of history.
Thank you for supporting our work to help every eligible voter make their voice heard.
Sincerely,
Lauren Kunis
