The ERA moves beyond legal equality. Women in America today already enjoy full legal equality with men. But “equal” doesn’t mean “same.” And those differences matter.
While the ERA may sound good, it is both unnecessary and potentially dangerous. It will hurt, not help, women.
In short, the ERA will throw into jeopardy any policy or program that distinguishes between the sexes. This will destroy all sorts of policies and programs designed to support women and girls—from child custody laws to federal grants for women in STEM fields. And it could potentially eliminate single sex bathrooms, athletic teams, and battered women’s shelters.
ERA proponents won’t tell you about these unintended consequences. That’s why we need you to help spread the word.
