Why do giraffes need our help?

Reticulated giraffes are almost exclusively found in Kenya and fewer than 16,000 remain – a 56% decline in 30 years. Around 1,400 of these rare giraffes reside in Meru, and these voracious vegetarians play a crucial ecological role – they browse trees to promote new growth and disperse acacia seeds in their dung to help stop desertification.

Like you, we’re conservation optimists and protecting Meru’s giraffes is key. Funded by adopters, we’re working with local people to keep giraffes safe, destroy lethal snares and identify individuals – including supermum Zarafa, pictured above, who gave birth to our first-ever giraffe twins last year!

You can help make our giant project an outstanding success by adopting our Giraffe Family. Together, let’s turn it around for Meru’s giraffes.
