Friend, my name is Cora Nally. 

I'm the director of international emergency response at Americares, and I was part of the team deployed on the ground near the epicenter of the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria on Monday, Feb. 6.

I know firsthand how your support today will make a world of difference for refugees displaced by war and natural disaster in this complex and nuanced region, and I want to share with you one refugee’s story – one of many survivors I’ve encountered.

But first, I have to ask you right away: Today is World Refugee Day, and we've set a critical $25,000 goal – as of now, however, we're still falling short of where we need to be before our midnight deadline. Please, donate $125 and change the lives of refugees in Türkiye, Syria and around the world. The earthquakes were devastating to refugee families like Abdul's. They had already fled the war in Syria, seeking safety and a brighter future in ​​Türkiye. 

But all that changed when the earthquakes struck. Their home was leveled to rubble, friends and neighbors were lost in collapsed buildings, and they weren't sure how to restart their lives yet again. 

These earthquakes only escalated an already-complex refugee crisis that has been worsening over the last decade. The psychological trauma Syrian refugees like Abdul face can often exacerbate symptoms of chronic health conditions.

Fortunately, Americares was prepared to respond immediately. We helped restore access to health care to displaced families and delivered medicines and relief supplies for health workers treating survivors. And that's because of the donations from humanitarians like you.
