John,
Despite the incontrovertible reality that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election by millions of votes, Trump has continued to repeatedly allege widespread voter fraud and claims that the election was stolen from him.
Several conservative media outlets, commentators, and conspiracy theorists promoted and spread these claims, from Fox News, to One America News Network and Newsmax, as well as individuals like Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who were part of Trump's legal team.
Alarmingly, YouTube has now recently announced that it would be joining this band of election deniers by no longer removing videos falsely asserting that the 2020 election was stolen.
This decision is both dangerous and irresponsible because it provides another massive, mainstream platform for falsehoods that have already undermined our democratic institutions, fueled divisiveness, and fostered mistrust among voters.
YouTube, as one of the world's most influential platforms for sharing information, owned by a global corporate giant, Google, carries an immense responsibility. Tell YouTube to remove 2020 election fraud claims and take the necessary steps to hold accountable those who spread misleading or deceptive content that can cause considerable harm.
The continued spread of false claims about the 2020 election will keep having a significant impact on American democracy, from eroding trust in the electoral system to making it more difficult for the country to move on before another contentious election.
When multiple courts, including the Supreme Court, have dismissed these claims due to a lack of evidence, it is deeply concerning that YouTube has decided to allow the Big Lie to spread while outright disregarding the legal judgments and expert opinions that have thoroughly debunked them.
This irresponsible stance by YouTube undermines its credibility and raises serious questions about its commitment to combating the spread of misinformation.
With the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency declaring that the 2020 election was "the most secure in American history" and the Department of Justice also finding no evidence of widespread voter fraud, YouTube must fulfill its responsibility as a trusted source of accurate and reliable information.
Demand that YouTube reassesses and reverses its decision. We must insist that YouTube return to its earlier stance of removing videos that promote baseless allegations about the 2020 U.S. election.
Together, we can help shape a digital environment that supports truth, integrity, and responsible discourse.
