Guns remain the number one cause of death among children in America, and I believe Congress must do more to prevent mass shootings and keep our communities safe. That's why I was appalled to see the conservative House Majority pass a resolution last week allowing unfettered access to stabilizing braces, a gun accessory used in four mass shootings since 2019. As Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee, I was proud to stand up for our kids and put their safety over the gun industry's profits.

As we head into hurricane season, I reintroduced my bill to ensure co-ops and condos are eligible for the same FEMA disaster assistance as other homeowners. I first introduced the Disaster Assistance Fairness Act in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, where hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were shocked to learn that FEMA's disaster assistance eligibility rules left them with no way of restoring their homes simply because they shared walls and floors with neighbors and were a member of a homeowners’ association.
