Last week, as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I opposed the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) funding bill for Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA, and Related Agencies during its consideration by our committee.
John, our country’s agricultural industry needs robust investment, not draconian cuts. If you support keeping our country strong, please stand with me in opposition to these cuts by supporting my re-election campaign.
The funding cuts proposed in this bill would endanger our ability to produce safe and affordable food, medicine, and medical equipment and jeopardize our supply chain resilience. If passed, here’s what the FY24 bill would do:
- Strip over 100,000 farm loan borrowers from assistance they need, including hundreds of Georgia farmers.
- Hurt 4.6 million women and children by underfunding the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program for 2024 and cutting the fruits and vegetable voucher program.
- Eliminate funding to assist small towns in providing clean water.
- Cut $88 million from the ReConnect program to expand broadband internet services.
- Gut over $1 billion in investments for affordable energy in rural communities.
Furthermore, this proposed FY24 funding bill breaks with the negotiated, bipartisan spending levels agreed to as part of the debt ceiling law we passed just a few weeks ago.
John, to put it simply: This bill is a drastic step backwards, one that we can’t afford to make. I need your help — will you chip in to support me as I continue fighting to protect our communities, country, and economy from Republicans’ funding cuts?
Thank you,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop
