Pour one out for… cruelty?!

Hi,

A night out at a restaurant may bring up thoughts of dining with loved ones, trying a new dish, or sitting down to relax after a big week.

But when restaurants won’t commit to standards that’d protect animals in their operations from abuse, that meal comes at a cost.

Take BJ’s Restaurants & Brewhouse, a casual dining chain with over 200 restaurants in 29 states (and more than 60 locations in California). BJ’s Restaurants markets itself as a place to step into life’s carefree moments. A place where patrons can experience “joy” and “delicious food,” or retreat for “an everyday escape.”

But there’s no escape for the hens trapped in BJ’s Restaurants & Brewhouse’s operations.

Behind its easygoing facade, BJ’s Restaurants is making life anything but joyful for animals.

The company had said it’d stop subjecting hens to a life of extreme confinement by eliminating the use of battery cages by 2025. But as of right now, BJ’s Restaurants & Brewhouse hasn’t publicly reported progress on its goal—or shared a roadmap for how it’ll meet its commitments. Until it does, BJ’s Restaurants continues to serve a heaping helping of cruelty.

P.S. BJ’s Restaurants & Brewhouse claims to deliver a joyful dining experience. But there’s no joy in sight for the hens suffering in extreme confinement. Will you help keep BJ’s Restaurants accountable?
