Across the country, legislators are targeting our queer and trans siblings with hateful legislation and violent rhetoric. We urgently need federal protection for LGBTQ+ people so people can live safely and freely as their true selves.

In my home state of Missouri, the Governor and legislature just denied access to lifesaving gender-affirming care for young people, as well as adults on Medicaid and incarcerated adults. Families are not sure they will safely be able to stay in Missouri, and some have begun GoFundMe campaigns to gather the resources to move.

To secure LGBTQ+ rights and protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination, I’m pushing for constitutional change and for legislation like the Equality Act.

The Equality Act would explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation and gender identity in areas including education, housing, employment, public accommodations, federally funded programs, credit, and more.

This Pride month and year-round, we’ve got to come together to defend the lives and rights of queer and trans people, including people outside the gender binary.
