On the eve of the Dobbs decision anniversary this upcoming weekend, I’m sure many of you are assured by the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision to block a near-total ban on abortion in our state.
Iowa Democrats trust women to make the best decision for themselves and their families – without shame, stigma, or interference from politicians. Iowa Republicans continue to impose politics onto a personal health care decision.
Our job going forward is to listen to the needs of our fellow Iowans and ensure that folks in every corner of the state can access the medical care they need, no matter where they live or what’s in their wallet.
One of my goals as Chair has been to clean up our data and train our folks on the ground about best practices for collecting and maintaining outstanding records. No campaign should have to start from scratch when we have so many talented grassroots activists doing this work year-round.
We’re partnering with the Best Practices Institute to offer a virtual VAN training for Iowa Democrats on Thursday, June 29 at 5 PM. The training will cover how you can effectively use the tool to activate voters in your own community. No prior experience is required – RSVP today!
Coming off of a successful IDP Steering Committee Retreat where we established a foundation for a new strategic plan, I’ve got a busy schedule ahead of me this week. I’m headed to Denison for the Western Iowa Five County Democrats’ “Dogs and Brats for Democrats” to meet with new and old friends from Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Ida, and Shelby counties. I’ll be rounding out my week with a quick trip to Des Moines and Story County before joining the Scott County Democrats for their Red, White, and Blue Gala on Saturday.
I hope to see you at one (or more) of these great county party events!
Yours,
Rita Hart
