Dear Friend,
A fundamental challenge of our time is combating rising hate and demonization. The signs that white supremacist groups are on the rise are everywhere, from the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol to the rising incidents of anti-semitism and other hate crimes. In fact, antisemitic attacks rose 36% in 2022, up from the record-setting level in 2021 (see the chart below). As I explained recently on the Mehdi Hasan show [[link removed]] , hate against any group must be viewed as an attack on all of us.

The mission of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is to lead the way in the fight against hate. That’s why I’m proud to join them as a partner in our Hate Free Colorado work. And it’s also why I’m so honored to be a recipient [[link removed]] of their Civil Rights Champion award.
Our work on civil rights is one of my top priorities for my second term. We just formally established a Civil Protections team and hired an Assistant Deputy in charge of this important work, allowing us to enforce and utilize new legal authority granted to our Department by the General Assembly.
We cannot be complacent in the face of rising hate and the challenge of fighting for true equality for all. To that end, we must take hate crimes seriously and stand with pride and support for all individuals targeted by hate.
