For far too long, non-DeSoto County residents have used loopholes and forgery to cheat the system and abuse our high-achieving school system.
Yesterday, we took action to stop that practice in DeSoto County.
Following a recommendation from our DeSoto County School Board and Superintendent Cory Uselton, your Board of Supervisors have unanimously adopted and passed an ordinance that will make it a crime for parents who falsify residence documents in order to send their child to school here.
Borders matter. And this ordinance will stop the practice of non-DeSoto County residents who use loopholes and forgery to cheat the taxpayers of DeSoto County and our high-achieving school system.
Those that continue to cheat will be removed from DCS and met with a $500 fine and/or 6 months in jail.
I want to thank Superintendent Uselton and the School Board for bringing this to our attention and partnering with us to further protect our attractive school system and the taxpayers of DeSoto County.
