John: Scientists say we have seven years to act on climate change—and the Ceres team has identified 7 critical actions to do exactly that.
Momentum is on our side, but the incumbent players in the old economy are fighting every element of this plan and finding receptive ears in statehouses and the U.S. Congress.
Recently, we shared a
blog and video from CEO and President Mindy Lubber that outlined each of the critical 7 actions
needed to avert the worst effects of climate change.
These actions span public and private sectors and demand nothing short of a transformation to a clean energy economy—including:
Implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which will cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions to 40% of peak levels;
Transformation of the six highest-emitting sectors which together account for 80% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions;
Regulation and management of climate risk as the systemic financial risk it is; and more.
It won’t be easy. We face dogged opposition, including new efforts in the House of Representatives to water-down the IRA.
