As the 2022/2023 school year closes, the Library of Michigan is pleased to thank Toni Isaac at the Troy High School Media Center for her time this year as the Model SL 21 School Library! In the last year, Toni was able to work with several school districts and school librarians who were planning renovations and reconstruction of their school libraries, consulted on best practices for working with public libraries based on her experiences with the Troy Public Library, and provide support on best practices for high school library programs. LM and MDE staff, including State Superintendent Dr. Rice, enjoyed our visit to the Troy High School Library during March is Reading month. ?Congratulations to Toni for being selected as the Model School Library and for doing such a great job during her tenure.
Following Toni?s great work, for the 2023/2024 year, the Allen Park High School Library Media Center with Library Media Specialist, Melissa Lambert, has been selected as our new Model School Library. Melissa?s collaborative teaching work with teaching staff included over 200 collaborative lessons last years. Her outreach to students in the library includes Maker Stations, interactive book displays, Hour of Code and March is Reading month programming. Melissa also works closely with the local public library to provide additional resources and programming for her students. LM selected Melissa?s library for the Model SL 21 honor for her focus engaging with students and teaching colleagues where they are and bringing resources and activities to them.? We are excited to learn with Melissa this year!
The Model School Library program at the Library of Michigan (LM) provides examples and mentors for K-12 school libraries throughout the state as well as highlights great school librarians. Each year, a school library program is selected and highlighted as the Model SL 21 School Library Program of the Year.
