Making sure you saw Senator Murphy's note. The Senate is going to vote on our war powers resolution today to prevent Donald Trump from starting an unauthorized war with Iran, and Chris needs your help to add pressure on Senate Republicans. Add your name to tell them to pass this war powers resolution:

Friends -

Before the impeachment trial, we were trying to pass a war powers resolution to stop Donald Trump from going to war with Iran. We had to put it on hold, but we are going to force a debate and vote on it in the Senate.

I'm co-sponsoring Senator Tim Kaine's war powers resolution to prevent further military action against Iran, which Senate rules require us to debate and vote on.

Passing this resolution would ensure we stop Donald Trump from starting an unauthorized war with Iran. Some of my Republican Senate colleagues have expressed their support, but we need you to make your voice heard.

Add your name: Tell the Senate to pass our war powers resolution to prevent war with Iran. It is time to de-escalate tensions. We do not want another endless war in the Middle East.

Last month, the administration briefed Congress on the strike against Soleimani. I did not hear evidence of a specific imminent threat that would allow an attack without congressional authorization.

In fact, reporting suggests that they had been planning this strike for seven months.

It is increasingly clear that there was no imminent threat, and therefore, this strike was illegal.

And this isn't a partisan concern. Right after the White House's briefing, two Republican Senators expressed support for our resolution.

We have a real chance at passing this resolution and preventing any further unauthorized military action against Iran.

Senate rules mean Mitch McConnell has to allow for a debate and vote on this, and all we need is a simple majority for it to pass.

Tell the Senate to support our war powers resolution and prevent war with Iran. We cannot allow the Trump administration's strike to go unchallenged. As it stands, this is an unconstitutional, dramatic expansion of presidential discretion to start wars.

America is less safe because of Donald Trump's military action against Iran.

Congress must reassert its constitutional authority as a co-equal branch of government to ensure we do not end up in another endless war in the Middle East.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
