Happy Juneteenth, john!

Today we celebrate the day the last enslaved Black people of Galveston, Texas learned they were free on June 19, 1865.

But while Juneteenth has come to symbolize the liberation of those enslaved, it reminds us that there is still much more we must do to realize the promise of a country where people are truly equal.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth while understanding it isn't a declaration of victory. It's a step forward in the fight for progress.

The legacy of slavery still exists today. It’s up to us––all of us, working together––to continue making progress on racial equality.

As we celebrate Juneteenth today and commemorate the end of a dark period in our nation's history, I hope you will join me in recommitting to the fight for equality.

Thanks,

Kim
