Policy. It's not the most fascinating part of elections and the average voter finds them boring. But there is one policy that has the support of Democratic, Republican, and independent voters over all other policies. It's a federal job guarantee.
What's that mean? It creates full employment by having the federal government promise to hire unemployed workers as an employer of last resort. In the current economy, the Federal Reserve reduces inflation by raising interest rates. What happens? Food, fuel, and housing get more expensive, and jobs are cut causing unemployment. A federal job guarantee allows for all workers to have a job.
For Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District, if there was a program in place it would do several things:
- Bring more taxes into local communities to pay for roads and services that are desperately needed.
- Eliminates unemployment. Everyone who wants to work gets a job!
- Breathe new life into our towns and villages. The jobs needed are decided on the local level, so workers can help repair aging infrastructure, paint and maintain local buildings, and provide child care and support to elders.
