Friends,
Today we commemorate Juneteenth – the day on which the last group of those enslaved learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
For the last 158 years, June 19th has symbolized both a triumphant and reflective moment in American history. Today we celebrate freedom, reflect on how far we must go, and find inspiration to fight harder on behalf of justice for all.
Our work towards racial equity and justice is far from over. This continued moment of racial reckoning has illuminated the fact that racism is not only still ingrained in the heads and hearts of thousands across the country, but also deeply woven into the fabric of our government and our systems. It’s up to us to change that.
I hope you’ll join me today in recommitting yourself to the fight for change and the pursuit of racial equity, freedom, and justice for all.
Grateful to have you in this fight with me.
