Friend, this Juneteenth we are celebrating all of the progress made toward universal civil rights.

But we are also using this time to acknowledge how much work still needs to be done to ensure people’s right to vote, live, and thrive.

158 years after Juneteenth, this one California legislator is working hard to expand voting rights and access for all.

Assemblymember Isaac Bryan has introduced a bold voting rights package that includes three of our priority bills. We had the privilege of speaking with him about these bills and how they tie directly to Juneteenth and a history of disenfranchisement.

The anniversary of the ending of enslavement in the United States is the perfect time to discuss how Black folks are still disenfranchised and have disproportionally lower access to voting, even in California.

Friend, check out our latest blog post to hear from Assemblymember Isaac Bryan and learn about his democracy bill package →

Assemblymember Bryan’s bills would make strides toward referendum transparency and reform, expanding voting access to incarcerated folks, and combatting gerrymandering.

When everyone is given access to vote, we all benefit.

Thank you for reading!
