Friends,
Today is Juneteenth – a celebration of freedom for Black Americans nationwide. While we have made progress in the fight for equity and freedom for all, our work is far from over.
During the last session, Senate Democrats continued their work on racial justice to build a Washington where everyone lives freely and thrives.
Our Senators took historic action on housing and created a down payment and closing cost assistance program for historically marginalized Washingtonians. With the history of redlining and the racial wealth gap, building a pathway to homeownership is critical for Black families.
And, they continued to address wealth inequality. The legislature increased access to free school lunches and expanded affordable childcare. But there is still so much more to do, and our Senators are hard at work preparing for the next legislative session.
On this anniversary, we acknowledge our ongoing commitment to racial justice. We honor this historic day and everyone who has led in the fight for a more just and equitable world.
