Juneteenth: Celebrating the Contributions of Black Women in the Labor Movement
In a new blog, India Heckstall examines the historical significance of Juneteenth and its connection to the resilience of Black women in the labor movement. She highlights the crucial role Black women have in organizing, advocating for workers' rights, and addressing racial and gender inequalities in our society. Heckstall takes a look at often-overlooked figures like Rosina Corrothers Tucker, Sylvia Woods, and Hattie Canty as examples of Black women who shaped the labor movement.
While a celebration of Black liberation, Juneteenth is also a time to reflect on the achievements of Black women while acknowledging the ongoing struggle for racial and economic justice. We must not forget the importance of recognizing and honoring the contributions of Black women in the labor movement. This Juneteenth, CLASP commemorates their resilience and ongoing fight for justice and equality.
