Together we fight for a better future.Friend,

Common Dreams was built on the simple idea that progress is possible
when enough good people come together to fight for a better world.

We know that this is true because history has shown how organized people
won victories time and time again against the forces of repression and
cruelty. Such victories do not come easy. Not every battle is won. Those
who oppose progress will do everything in their power to protect the
systems that maintain their grip on money and political power.

Today in the United States, the federal holiday of Juneteenth helps us
celebrate the historic victory over chattel slavery in this country.
Many who suffered inside that brutal regime before 1865 could not
imagine a world in which freedom would come. And yet it did come—not
by chance, but through sheer determination.

Of course, ending slavery in the United States did not erase inequality
or end the fight for social change. But it showed that brutality and
greed can be defeated when enough good people come together for a better
world. What once seemed impossible, later feels like it was inevitable.

Today, we face our own era’s struggles for a better world. The
lowercase common dreams that we share demand that we never stop working
against oppression. Our team will never stop believing that society can
reach a higher place. Our reporting refuses to turn away from the
horrors of this world. Our mission statement—To inform. To inspire. To
ignite change for the common good.—marks our commitment to remaining
on the frontlines of these battles.

As we kick off our Mid-Year Campaign today, we hope readers like you
will join us to make sure truly independent journalism not only survives
but thrives. Together, we fight for a better future and, with your
support, we vow to do our part in this struggle we share.
