Dear friend,

As we celebrate Juneteenth, I wanted to take a minute to recognize the power of the Black organizers who have led the fight for a more equitable future. It's been 158 years since the last enslaved people in Texas heard the news of their freedom, and today serves as a reminder that while the fight continues, there is room to celebrate our victories.

I'm proud to stand in solidarity with the Black organizers here in New York and around the country who are working tirelessly in the pursuit of justice and to honor the legacy of the leaders who've come before.

Juneteenth has been celebrated in Black communities for generations, and I'm encouraged to see it receive more recognition as a federal holiday. I hope you are celebrating Juneteenth with your community, and taking a moment today to pause and reflect on how very far we have come.

In solidarity,
Nydia
