Today is Juneteenth, a day when we recognize the end of slavery in the United States. As a Black woman born and raised in Houston, Texas – just about an hour away from where Juneteenth originated, this day means so much to me.
On this day in 1865, Major General Gordon Granger rode to Galveston, Texas to share the news that “all slaves are free” and “an “absolute equality of personal rights” for Black Americans.
Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go to achieve “absolute equality.”
White supremacist violence remains a top threat according to the FBI and they are more emboldened than ever now that Trump is for President again.
Republicans across the South are creating racist gerrymandered maps to disenfranchise Black voters.
Far-right Republicans like Ron DeSantis are rewriting history to silence the real history of Black people in this country. And so much more…
It’s no secret, John – Republicans are using every racist tactic in their oppressive playbook to maintain their status quo.
The best way to stop them is by investing in Democrats who are dedicated to uplifting and protecting marginalized people.
