Happy Juneteenth, John!
Today is a day to celebrate liberation. It is a day to celebrate the resilience of Black Americans, and to recommit to removing barriers that keep every Black American from being a full and equal participant in our democracy.
Seventeen U.S. states saw new or stricter voter ID laws go into effect between 2020 and 2023. We know these new laws, like those that came before them, disproportionately affect and disenfranchise Black voters.
For an inclusive, multiracial democracy to exist, every eligible voter must be heard.
That’s our mission at VoteRiders: We work to help people overcome the barriers created by voter ID laws to ensure that every eligible voter can vote, regardless of race, income, education level, or living situation. That means reaching out with information on voter ID rules, and with free, one-on-one help getting an ID if a voter doesn’t have one.
That’s our commitment to liberation on Juneteenth — and year round.
Thank you for supporting VoteRiders and ensuring that every voice can be heard in our democracy.
Sincerely,
Sylvester Johnson III
