Democracy means everyone has a voice

Today we commemorate the day the last enslaved people in the United States learned that they were emancipated. Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom.

But extremists are challenging our freedoms, and the voting rights of Black Americans are a favorite target.

States—particularly those where democracy is most at risk—have successfully purged voter registration rolls, closed polling places, gerrymandered districts to diminish representation for Black voters, and legalized dozens of ways to make it harder for Black voters to cast their ballots.

This Juneteenth, we’re asking you to push back on these efforts by helping to register voters and otherwise reduce voter suppression so that Black voters can exercise their right to have a voice in their government.

These events target key states for 2023 and 2024 elections. You can participate regardless of where you live:

Our Constitution promises equality. Juneteenth reminds us that fulfilling this promise is an ongoing effort and responsibility. Each of us must help uphold that pledge.

At The Union, we partner with organizations like Mobilize and Rideshare2Vote to promote actions with one purpose: preserving democracy and the freedoms that come with it.

It will take all of us. Please commit some time on Juneteenth to help preserve access to voting.
