Dear friend,
Our team at Fairness Project is wishing you and your loved ones a joyous Juneteenth!
Juneteenth marks the date that enslaved people of Galveston, TX learned they were free on June 19th, 1865, more than two years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
Today is a celebration of independence, justice, and joy, but it also comes with the recognition that Black Americans face continued inequity both openly and subvertly.
We honor the memory of those enslaved people and the history of progress with celebration and with the commitment to continuing the fight.
We will always continue to push for the justice, peace, and equity that Black Americans deserve. It’s part of our mission to enact change through direct democracy; when you give people the choice, they choose progress.
Have a safe and happy Juneteenth,
Kelly Hall
