| John Voices for Public Transit is celebrating Juneteenth by recognizing how public transportation contributes to racial equity, economic opportunities, and community development. The African American community has had a difficult history with systemic racist practices that limited their mobility and access. It is important to honor how far our nation has come in providing viable transportation options while also addressing how race still impacts the ability for African Americans to navigate communities of all sizes. Please read our latest blog to learn more about how public transit ensures equity and access for all. | Everyone deserves safe, reliable, and affordable transportation that connects them to economic opportunity, essential services, and their community as a whole. Public transit provides many African American communities access to better job opportunities, educational paths, and business success—and efforts to expand and improve public transit will make those opportunities available to even more of our fellow citizens. Ultimately, public transportation connects riders to people and places, which allows everyone to participate in society and contribute to the economy in many ways.
