Today is the federal holiday of "Juneteenth" which celebrates the last slaves being freed in 1865.  The Union army was sent to the Galveston, Texas area to make sure emancipation orders were obeyed.This is a fitting holiday because African-Americans deserve to have their legacy known by their countrymen and many U.S. citizens are clueless about the debilitating aspects of slavery.
