John,
Today, my team is commemorating our country’s newest federal holiday, Juneteenth.
As we celebrate the day that the last enslaved people were set free, we must not only reflect on how far our country has come but also recognize the long-lasting legacy of slavery and the scars of inequity it left behind.
I have committed my life to social justice – including advancing racial justice through voting rights, addressing housing and educational disparities, and fighting discrimination in the criminal justice system.
That work continues now in my time in Congress. I am committed to continuing to fight for liberty and justice for all and to uplift the voices of those in our community working towards true equity.
Let us recommit ourselves to fighting for fair representation, justice, and equity for Black Americans.
From everyone here at Team Scholten, Happy Juneteenth!
In solidarity,
Hillary Scholten |
