Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.

While we take today to recognize and celebrate this important moment in history, we must also acknowledge the systemic inequity and racism that still exists today. Though we have come a long way, we still have much work to do to achieve full equality in Maryland and across the country.

As Comptroller, I have dedicated myself to ensuring our state’s systems work for everyone, regardless of how you identify or where you’re from. My office is dedicated to partnering to build a state that is more equitable, more resilient, and more prosperous. Understanding our history is part of writing a better future.
