Today, we're celebrating Juneteenth — the day in 1865, more than two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, that enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free.
Yet, we're still fighting for true racial equality 150 years later. We don't have to look far to see police brutality perpetrated against innocent Black people again and again or state legislatures across the country working to suppress our right to vote.
As tough as the fight is, we can never and will never give up — because as activist Fannie Lou Hamer once said, “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”
