John, this past Friday I was joined by President Biden at the Safer Communities Summit in Hartford, CT. When the President went on stage, what he said took me completely by surprise.

He called me out by name, sharing my story of how I ran for office on a platform of ending gun violence. But what really touched my heart was how he mentioned my son Jordan.

We were gathered in Connecticut with lawmakers, gun safety advocates, and families impacted by gun violence to discuss how we can make progress on this critical issue. It was a meaningful display of solidarity among leaders who recognize that our status quo of gun violence is unacceptable.

I’m grateful for President Biden taking the time to attend the event and amplify our message. His leadership on this matter has been inspiring – and I was incredibly honored that he recognized the hard work I’ve put in over the years.

I talk a lot about how important it is that folks impacted by gun violence continue to share their stories. It meant the world to me that the President used his short time on stage to amplify Jordan’s story with such a public platform.
