FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #22 Dear Friends/Amigos, This week I was back in Washington advocating for all my constituents in the halls of Congress. Florida's 27th District is home to millions of Latin American exiles who left their home countries in search of liberty in the United States. Immigrants are an important part of what makes America exceptional, and it's in our blood to welcome those who want to work hard and live out their American Dream. For this reason, I introduced the Venezuelan Adjustment Act and the Dream and Promise Act. In District 27, we live out our welcoming values. These people form our communities as our friends and neighbors. With the introduction of this legislation, we are giving them the Dignity they deserve. It is an honor to serve you in Congress, and please continue to call my office or visit my website to share your thoughts with me. As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) VENEZUELAN ADJUSTMENT ACT LEY DE AJUSTE VENEZOLANO This week, I introduced the Venezuelan Adjustment Act to create a permanent legal status for Venezuelans living in the United States. As a result of Chavez and Maduro's destructive socialist ideology, Venezuela has gone from being one of the richest countries in Latin America to one of the poorest. The poverty and oppression that came with socialism also created the largest migration crisis in the world, as over 7 million Venezuelans have left their home country just in the last few years. America stands with those who escape oppression looking for freedom, and the Venezuelan Adjustment Act shows that in Florida's 27th District, we are committed to human rights, democracy, and liberty. STANDING WITH DREAMERS This week, I joined my colleagues in both parties to introduce the Dream and Promise Act. Millions of Dreamers bring enormous value to our communities, culture, and economy, yet are not recognized for their contributions. It is unthinkable that Congress has not provided a solution for those immigrants who have only ever known the United States as their home. Dreamers are Americans, and we must let them live free in the Promised Land.
